The Texas Tribune reported this week that the Texas House has passed bill 1070 which would allow Texas to exit from ERIC. This would make Texas the ninth State to suspend it’s membership in the Electronic Registation Information Center (ERIC).
Previous States have reported errors, lack of control and failure to clean voter rolls as reasons for their departure. Despite other State’s decisions to move away from ERIC, Georgia's SoS Brad Raffensperger doubled down and expressed continued confidence in the ERIC system and it’s use across Georgia. He failed however to explain how ERIC could be doing its job when some Georigia Counties have see growth in their voter rolls of more than 10 times the growth in population in their County.
Recently Raffensperger attended a summit meeting in Washington DC hosted by ERIC’s founder, David Becker, who also founded the Center for Election Innovation and Research. Verity Vote has published information reporting that ERIC is sharing personal information with CEIR contrary to the laws in a number of States.
While CEIR claims to be a bipartisan organization interested only in protecting our elections, it instead hosted the summit and included Raffensperger and Jamie Raskin (D-MD) on a key panel during day one of the conference. Raskin has staunchly argued for Trump to be charged with seditious conspiracy for the actions of January 6th, even after videos have emerged showing capitol police ESCORTING people through the Capitol to Senate and other chambers.
Perhaps these inconsistencies explain why Raffensperger carefully dodged reporters questions during the conference:
Raffensperger has also announced he will not attend the upcoming Georgia GOP Conference in June. The Georgia Record wonders when Mr. Raffensperger will be willing to answer questions from the public about his actions and intentions for the 2024 election cycle.
