Over the last four years people have become incredibly sensitive to secrecy. Especially as it concerns political officials and organizations.

Now comes word that Josh McKoon and the Georgia GOP (GAGOP Inc) wish to finalize an agreement with former GOP chairman John Padgett and have the settlement agreement sealed away from public eyes forever.

In June 2023, The Georgia Record and CDM reported on the existence of a corporation formed ostensibly around the Georgia Republican Party certain aspects of the Georgia GOP back in 2014.   At the time David Schaefer, Josh McKoon and others pointed to an existing court case between the Georgia Republican Party and past GOP Chairman John Padgett, and said as soon as that was resolved this could all be rectified.

Now as it seems the time to rectify the issue is approaching for reasons known only to Josh McKoon and the elite of the Republican Party, they wish to take the resolution of the court case and have the court seal it away from public inspection permanently.

This is especially problematic for members of the Georgia Republican Party who note that as members they should be privy to any information regarding the parties costs, expenditures, settlements, and other monetary agreements.

In past months, members who have asked uncomfortable questions of Josh McKoon and the GOP executive committee have found themselves seemingly banned from GOP decisions. In some case they have actually been removed from their elected roll in the GOP.

GOP members ask why now are Josh and the other members of the GOP, Inc. executive committee trying to hide the settlement and any monetary results from Republican Party members as well as the public?

They also wonder why Fulton County Judge Melynee Leftridge would be willing to hide such an agreement that has been paid for by funds derived from the GOP members. Shouldn't the members who paid for the efforts be able to see and understand the outcome they paid for and asked for these past years? Why should this information be hidden from the public record?

The fact that attorney Alex Kaufmann filed the motion to seal at 5;49pm (just before closing) on July 26th further speaks to citizens questions regarding the transparency (or lack of transparency) of this process.

In the last 48 hours Newtalk Radio 1140 in southeast Georgia has also reported on the same issue and asked Josh McKoon openly why they would be doing this.

Given the comments by Trump during Saturdays rally here in Atlanta, The Georgia Record wonders if there's something in the settlement or implied within the documents that they do not wish to disclose at this time. Trump already identified that Raffensperger and Kemp seem to working against him - a thought echoed by some longtime Trump advisors and supporters:

Does something in the settlement agreement suggest that efforts against Trump extend further than Raffensperger and Kemp? We don't yet know.

The Georgia Record was relaunched in June of 2021 and has been extremely successful fighting corruption in the state named after King George of England. The original paper was started in 1899 and published into the early 20th century. In 2020, CDM (Creative Destruction Media) acquired Johns Creek Post and brought back The Georgia Record to better represent the state rather than just Johns Creek News.
