With the Coronavirus spreading quickly, how Long does COV-19 Virus Last on Surfaces?

According to a new study published by the New England Journal of Medicine, this virus is considered a super spreader. The Journal of Hospital Infection also published research on the persistence of the infection on inanimate surfaces. They concluded, "Human coronaviruses can remain infectious on inanimate surfaces at room temperature for up to 9 days."

Below is are the combined highlights of the 2 studies:

    • Air - 3 hours
    • Copper - 4 hours
    • Glass - 5 days
    • Cardboard - 24 hours
    • Plastic - 72 hours - 6 days
    • PVC - 5 days
    • Silicon Rubber - 5 days
    • Latex Surgical Gloves - ≤ 8 hrs
    • Aluminum - 2-8 hrs
    • Stainless Steel - 72 hours - 5 days
    • Ceramic - 5 days
    • Teflon - 5 days

This is what distinguishes COV-19 when comparing to the regular flu which remains on surfaces for 48 hours.

At room temperature, the coronaviruses can remain infectious on inanimate surfaces for up to 9 days.

    {Super Spreaders}

The major concern and why this is a pandemic is the high viral loads and the potential for persons infected with and transmits the virus while asymptomatic.

The virus can remain viable and infectious in the air and on surfaces for days.

Disinfecting surfaces with approved cleaning agents kill the virus.

    Additional Concerns

Above all else, Money is very dirty and rarely cleaned.

Airbag cushions from the boxes shipped from China. It's been suggested not to pop them inside.

In addition, asymptomatic foodservice workers are a concern for spreading the virus. Restaurants are closing throughout the Country. Best to order food to cook yourself, such as meat to BBQ or fresh fish to bake.

why isn't fulton county making makeshift hospitals for virus patients in vacant buildings like the vacant super target building in Roswell ? or doing something to prepare in advance ?

    Cris

Marsha it all blows me away how careless people are and that preps go this slowly. I live in FL. In my area it loks white on map yet hundreds actually die of ? Influenca ?. No tests. Nope no tests. I am 77, home, fever, cough. I stay because no one out there will help. Doc says call health department. HD was nice , ask many Q, name, yes you are a risk case. Sorry no tests. Go to doc get resp panel to exclude everything else. Doc has no time. So I am home take aspirin, herbs, sleep, drink water. It is UNBELIEVABLE that there is no more action. We have MILLIONS of seniors in FL. No one cares. Stay well. Stay inside.

Thank you for article. I sent it to many.
Too much ignorance. People jog, pass each other, most have no clue how long it stays around. Scary really. Very much appreciated knowledge

Are we the ONLY city that is still open?
We need to shut the city down..We do not have to be "the Exception" in this case.
The virus cases are climbing and I was told we already have some in Johns Creek. True?

Please Issue a "Stay at Home" requirement and let's start doing our part like so many other cities/States are.
