City Council has scheduled an Emergency Meeting for tomorrow Wednesday 4/1 6 pm. In technical terms, this is defined as a "Special Called Meeting". The meeting will be on Zoom for residents to participate in.
Three important items on the agenda, that have resurfaced. Councilman Chris Coughlin and Councilwoman Stephanie Endres have advocated for changes in these ordinances since they were elected and have met heavy resistance from the rest of the Council.
For 12 years Johns Creek Permits, Inspections, Fees, & Fines are among the top 1% of ALL Georgia municipalities.
SECTION 4. All homeowners located within the City of Johns Creek, Georgia shall NOT be required to file for permits or pay permit fees for any non-structural, single residential improvement projects, that may include the replacement of existing electrical and/or plumbing fixtures, through the state of emergency declaration.
Johns Creek typically charges for every sign, banner, etc from the small businesses. Billboard companies, the largest advertiser in the City are exempt from the strict signage laws and fees. Thanks to the generous settlement Mayor Bodker negotiated.
SECTION 1. All businesses located within the City of Johns Creek, Georgia shall follow the below requirements until the expiration of the Mayor and City Council’s declaration of emergency:
Businesses who close shop in 2020 won't have to pay occupational taxes in Johns Creek.
SECTION 2. All business located within the City of Johns Creek, Georgia that are forced to close permanently due to the effects of emergency ordinances enacted by the United States, State of Georgia, Fulton County, Georgia and/or the City of Johns Creek, Georgia shall NOT pay any Occupational Business Taxes to the City of Johns Creek for the January 1, through December 31, 2020, tax year.
Local advocates have met resistance from Mayor Bodker and his voting block for years on these issues.
Will this virus change his mind and vote for what is best for small businesses and residents?
Watch the meeting here at 6 pm.
Thank you for posting this information. I had provided a temporary ordinance which would:
1. Relax temporary sign ordinance for businesses to better reach road traffic
2. Provide occupational business tax relief to Johns Creek businesses forced to close during this declaration of emergency
3. Release waste haulers from picking up bulk trash since they are not picking up any waste that must be handled by hand
4. Provide relief to residents in Johns Creek from having to pull permits and pay permit fees for any non-structural, single residential improvement projects during the declaration of emergency
Unfortunately, the meeting was cancelled and so this ordinance was not taken up. Currently, our next regularly scheduled meeting on April 13, 2020, is going to happen via Zoom. These items will be taken up at the work session. Please contact your Elected [email protected] regarding these measures and any recommendations you have to provide options to assist in engaging and surviving this "Shelter in Place".
The declaration of emergency will end and we will survive together as stronger community. Peace be with all!
Stephanie Endres
