Authorities have investigated 162 homicides this year, the most since 1996. Last year’s total was 161, up from 157 in 2020 and 99 in 2019.
Atlanta’s homicide tally has broken a record for the third year in a row.
Over the weekend, homicides were reported on Amal Drive in southwest Atlanta and Baker Street in northeast Atlanta, police said. Additionally, a teenager and a child were killed during a shootout at an apartment complex, but their deaths had not been ruled homicides Monday, police said.
