During recent public hearing on GA Bill HB 520, one of the concerns was regarding the ability for anonymous people to cause a person to be forcibly confined for mental evaluation and potentially treatment.

Now comes a story out of Florida showing how such a law in Florida called the "Baker Act" can be abused to shut up Trump supporters and investigators.

Laura Loomer posted that DeSantis Director, Christina Pushaw, is calling for the Baker Act to be used against Loomer and others ......

Sponsors of HB 520 claimed public concern about forced confinement was unwarranted since a similar law (not including anonymity) was already in GA Code. However, the Baker Act has existed in Florida since 1972. Now it seems it may be used to threaten those with certain views into silence.

We are living in a world which is using laws and regulations in ways never foreseen nor intended. To ignore these concerns simply invites the possibility for more abuses.
