When I was growing up in Savannah in the late '70s and early '80s, Clary's was a pharmacy.
The pharmacy no longer exists, but the place is now a world famous cafe, serving southern cooking to a delighted local population.
I strolled over the Clary's yesterday for breakfast, my first visit to the location in over 40 years. The place was packed. After eating, I understood why -- simple, great food, served with care.
Besides the good eats, what fascinated me was the conversation at the tables around me -- centering on being a good neighbor, caring of others, helping those in need.
These were good people I was dining with.
If you're in the area, well worth the trip. I'm sure Clary's will be here in another forty years when I return (hopefully I'll be back sooner).
