The City of Johns Creek took over an important responsibility & it has not improved. Zoning Notifications by City - Worsen. They provide less information than developers.

Back in December, 2013 the owner of the Johns Creek Post received this an impressive 8 pages in the mail from the Attorney petitioning on behalf Pollo Tropical Restaurant.

The Pollo Tropical Rezoning documents included:

    • the Application
    • Statement of Intent
    • Renderings
    • Site Plan (Color & B/W)
    • Location Map
    • Contact Information
    • All 3 Meetings (Community Meeting, Planning Commission & City Council Rezoning Hearing Date)

<p>Part of the issue back then was twofold. Many people did not receive the notice, and the Community Meetings were hosted by the Johns Creek Community Association in empty office buildings, and the locations changed monthly, depending upon availability.

The Pollo Tropical Community Meeting was held in an empty Tech Park building at night. It was VERY DARK. The parking lot was empty, the lot lights were either dim or not on. A Very Eery experience for a "City Mandated Meeting".

Therefore, the Pollo Tropical Zoning Case highlighted serious issues that needed to be address. The Johns Creek Post owner advocated for changes to be made for the zoning process more open and transparent for the residents.

The City now conducts the Meetings at City Hall and video streams part of them.

They also took over mailing the public notices.

Zoning Notifications by City - Worsen

The Johns Creek Post owner recently received a public notice for the Discount Tire and this clearly needs to be improved, again. See below.

There is no direct website link for the zoning case, just the generic City of Johns Creek website address.

There is also no other meeting dates other than community meeting.

With all the tax dollars collected and fees charged for the zoning cases by the City, it is clear more can be done.

When you get to the City of Johns Creek page dedicated to the zoning cases, very little information is presented. City Council Hearing dates are missing. This leaves the public without valuable information to plan ahead.

It will be listed in the agenda the Thursday night, prior to the Monday night meeting. Giving little notice to the residents.

The Georgia Record was relaunched in June of 2021 and has been extremely successful fighting corruption in the state named after King George of England. The original paper was started in 1899 and published into the early 20th century. In 2020, CDM (Creative Destruction Media) acquired Johns Creek Post and brought back The Georgia Record to better represent the state rather than just Johns Creek News.
