Why are Josh McKoon, Alex Kaufmann and the GAGOP, Inc. executive committee fighting to keep people from seeing the document? What is in the settlement agreement between the GAGOP, Inc. and John Padgett?
Mr. Padgett, through his attorney, filed a brief essentially saying they did not oppose disclosure of the agreement. Many have noted that Georgia law sets a high bar for sealing documents from public review and the GAGOP does not appear to have met this standard in this case.
An AMICUS brief has been filed by several parties asking the Court to deny sealing the settlement agreement.
If members of the GA GOP have been paying to belong for years, they're dues went, in part, to pay for this court case. Should they not now be able to see what was agreed - and paid for - with their own money?
The case was originally set for hearing several months ago. At that time, the attorney for the GAGOP, INC. asked that the hearing be continued (postponed.)
Here is our previous reporting on the case:
The hearing was then set for October 31, 2024 (Halloween.)
In a surprising move, within the final 24 hours prior to THAT hearing, the Court was again asked to continue the case till a later date.
Consequently the Court reset the hearing for this Tuesday, December 3rd, in Fulton Superior Court, 185 Central Avenue SW, Atlanta, GA. 12:30pm, Courtroom 8C
An interesting note is though the AJC and their political reporters often report on court cases involving the political parties, they appear to have largely avoided mentioning this case. Some ask why that would be.
What should GAGOP members think if McKoon, and the attorney for the GAGOP, INC. Alex Kaufmann, once again ask for a continuance?
