Many would admit that tensions can run high during campaigns, and certainly the leadup to the Georgia GOP Convention has been no exception. Regardless of the areas that two or more people agree on, sometimes comparatively minor differences in opinion can quickly escalate to arguments and unkind words, just as with personal relationships.
At the same time, some psychologists have noted that emotion can also open the door to speaking truths that would otherwise be left unsaid in the interest of equanimity. Is that what happened in the above social media exchange example? We don’t know.
In fairness, Mr. Futch did later send an apology along to Ms. Dooley for his comment. We certainly hope that Mr. Futch, and all GOP members, place conservative values and the right for people to openly and fairly choose their leaders above the value of money and privilege.
