Pursuant to Federal Judge Steve Jones order, Georgia lawmakers are busily crafting redistricting maps for both the House and Senate.
The GA Senate released their proposed maps today. Judge Jones had ordered that because of changes shown in the latest Census, Senate lawmakers must redraw the Senate districts with two additional black-majority districts. The Georgia House must redraw House districts with 5 additional Black-majority districts.
The legislature begins a Special Session this Wednesday, November 29th to comply with the Courts orders. If Judge Steve Jones doesn't agree with the proposed re-drawn districts, he may reject the proposals and use his own discretion to redraw one or both sets of districts.
Either way, thousands of Georgian's will find themselves assigned to a district different than the one to which they were assigned in the 2022 elections.
