Fulton County's Republican Party is calling out the Fulton County Commission for twice refusing to appoint a republican nominee to the Board of Elections. This unprecedented move breaks with many years of history which has allowed each party to have two representatives of their choosing on the Board of Elections.
The nominee was presented earlier in June and again last week. On both occasions the Board of Commissioners blocked the appointment, ignoring Fulton County Code 14-33 which states "Two members shall be appointed by the governing authority of Fulton County from nominations made by the [chairperson of the Fulton County Republican Party.]
Observers are asking why the Fulton County Commission fears this particular appointment so much? What might this nominee learn about how Fulton has been conducting it's elections, that is causing the Commission to violate their own law to prevent him from being placed on the Board?
The Georgia Record encourages citizens, who wish their County Commission to comply with the law, to send the message that Fulton must accept and appoint nominees properly brought forward, in accordance with Fulton County Codes.
