The Georgia Senate led by Lt. Governor Burt Jones passed 2 very important pieces of legislation Friday. The legislation now goes to the Georgia House for a vote. The Senate also passed a Resolution forming a committee to investigate Fani Willis that has subpoena power, and requires Fani, or others, to testify under oath. No vote is required in the House, nor does the Governor have to sign it.
SB355 passed with 30 votes Friday. It bans Ranked Choice Voting in Georgia aka Instant Runoff that is being mainly pushed by Democrats, Trump hater former House Rep. Scot Turner, and Brad Raffensperger.
It has a great shot to be passed by the Georgia House, but calls need to be made to House Members.
SB358 was passed Friday with 30 votes Friday.
Georgia Republicans pass bill to remove Brad Raffensperger from State Election Board

"The push to oust Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger from the State Election Board intensified Friday as a bill calling for his removal from the body passed on the state Senate floor.
The vote was sharply divided along partisan lines, with 30 Republicans voting to pass the measure and 19 Democrats voting against it.
Proponents of the bill, which would also give the State Election Board the power to hire independent election investigators and launch investigations into the Secretary of State’s office, say that the measure is necessary to restore public confidence in Georgia’s elections.
Several Republican lawmakers have claimed that Raffensperger’s presence as a nonvoting member of the State Election Board would constitute a conflict of interest if the board decided to investigate allegations of misconduct in the Secretary of State’s office.
“At the end of the day, it’s good policy,” said Sen. Max Burns (R-Sylvania), who authored the bill. “It's good policy to have oversight. It’s good policy to have independent investigations. It’s good policy for the people of Georgia to have confidence in their elections.”
This is the legislation we need you to flood your Georgia House Member with calls asking them to pass this bill. Word is the SoS office is in meltdown mode over this bill.
Georgia AG pressed to review Election Board proposal

The Republican sponsor of a measure that would allow the State Election Board to investigate Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asked Attorney General Chris Carr on Thursday to vet the constitutionality of the proposal.
The request from state Sen. Max Burns came after his general counsel wrote a letter saying Senate Bill 358 would violate the Georgia Constitution by allowing “unelected bureaucrats unchecked power over the state’s executive branch” and could lead to illegal election interference.
“This authority could easily be weaponized by political activists seeking to use the State Election Board to punish political opponents or prevent the lawful certification of election results, harming the integrity of Georgia’s elections,” Raffensperger attorney Charlene McGowan wrote in a letter to Burns, R-Sylvania.
Raffensperger deputy Jordan Fuchs said that voters elected her boss to oversee elections -- not a “group of bureaucratic political appointees with political instructions to guaranteed a certain result.”
They hypocrisy of Ms. Fuchs is appalling. We didn't elect her as SoS, but it is clear she is running the elections division of the SoS and is calling the shots.
The A.G. opinion Ms. McGowan stated from 2005 was when the SoS was a voting member and Chair of the State Election Board. That was changed with SB202 that passed a few years ago.
On January 23rd there was a hearing in the Senate Ethics Commitee about both SB355 and SB358.
The non-partisan legislative counsel testified that SB358 did not violate the Georgia Constitution. You can view the discussion about SB358 beginning at the 1:25:02 mark.
