Several days ago Rivian announced a halt to the $5B manufacturing project Gov. Kemp has been touting since May 2022.

A copy of the original announcement is available further in the article.

Now Kemp and company have been busily trying to put a shiny happy face on the news saying he’s confident Rivian will ultimately move forward and complete their commitment.

Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson seemed somewhat less confident in Rivian saying “That project may not be a future Rivian project but it certainly could be something else.”

What that something else might be is of course unknown at this point.

What is known is that Georgia has already committed $141 Million dollars to increasing water, sewer and road and highway construction projects that were agreed to in order to have Rivisn commit to the manufacturing facility.

How does that money now get paid?  Yesterday Senators wanted to know just that as they questioned the head of Georgia Economic Development Commission.

Some citizens are already calling for an investigation of the entire Rivian deal, noting this is not the only Kemp favorite that has seemingly gone belly-up following Kemp's deal-making. Plug Power in Camden County is another such example and is widely thought to be the underlying driver behind HB 206 which proposes to create even more "Economic Development Authorities" to create funding for companies like Plug Power.
